Wolverines’ JT Compher named B1G first star of week

University of Michigan freshman JT Compher had quite a weekend against rival Michigan State, and the Big Ten league office took notice.

Compher, a product of the National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, recorded three goals and two assists in the Wolverines’ sweep of the Spartans last week, along with a +5 rating.

He scored his seventh goal of the season Thursday night at Joe Louis Arena, a goal that broke a scoreless tie in the second period and propelled Michigan to a 2-1 win.

Then, on Friday in East Lansing, Compher recorded a career-high four points, posting two goals and two assists on the Wolverines’ main in-state rival.

It’s the second time that Compher has picked up a B1G weekly award – he was named the second star of the week on Dec. 3, 2013.

Ohio State goaltender Christian Frey and Minnesota goaltender Adam Wilcox rounded out this week’s B1G three stars.
