The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association and USA Hockey announced today that they are conducting an American Development Model roadshow across metro Detroit later this month.

From Jan. 27-29, the roadshow will stop at various ice arenas across the area to introduce and explain the ADM and the principles of long-term athlete development to parents, coaches and volunteers.

The roadshow will have presentations from USA Hockey ADM regional managers, along with station-based practice sessions on the ice to better demonstrate what the new development model consists of.

“We believe in the principles and have seen the benefits of the ADM and long-term athlete development,” said MAHA president George Atkinson in a press release. “The roadshow presentations will help inform parents of what to expect from USA Hockey’s skill development program from Mites to Midgets and how it is designed to teach young players the skills they need to have fun playing the game.

“We are fortunate to have the staff of USA Hockey, whose knowledge, experience and passion is contagious, leading these presentations and we hope that having a better understanding of the ADM will help parents make the right choice when selecting a hockey program for their young player.”

The ADM, which was originally introduced in 2009, was cultivated from thousands of hours of research, with help from experts not only in hockey, but also child development, sports in general and education. With the ADM, USA Hockey is able to provide associations across the nation with a detailed blueprint for optimal athlete development.

“Our mission is to answer questions and inform parents on the ADM’s emphasis on age-appropriate skill development,” said Bob Mancini, a USA Hockey ADM regional manager, in the release. “We’re excited to have an opportunity to talk with parents in a forum like this, where we can explain the science and research behind it. We want parents to understand the ADM is about delivering to their child what’s important at their age group because we want every boy and girl who joins USA Hockey to fulfill their potential.”
