Nagelvoort, Motte take home Big Ten weekly honors

Two members of the Michigan Wolverines’ freshman class picked up league honors today.

Goaltender Zach Nagelvoort and forward Tyler Motte were named the first and second stars of the week, respectively, by the Big Ten league office today.

The freshman duo played big roles in the Wolverines’ 6-0 win over Niagara Friday night (recap/photo gallery).

Nagelvoort, a Holland, Mich., native, recorded his first career shutout in the win, stopping 36 shots in the process. He has now allowed two goals or less in seven of his eight appearances this season. Nagelvoort leads the nation in goals-against average with a 1.48, and is third in save percentage at .950.

He was the league’s second star on Nov. 5.

Meanwhile, Motte, a St. Clair, Mich., native, recorded one goal and two assists in the same game. He jumpstarted the Wolverines’ offense by scoring just 34 seconds into the contest, then added assists on both of linemate Andrew Copp’s goals. It was Motte’s first career three-point game, and the second time he’s cracked the B1G three stars list.

Minnesota freshman defenseman Michael Brodzinski, a Muskegon Lumberjacks alum, was named the third star of the week.
