The Western Michigan Broncos were in Alaska this past weekend, but that didn’t stop some of their biggest stars from having big weekends.

Senior forward Shane Berschbach, a Clawson native, had three goals and an assist during the Brice Alaska Goal Rush tournament, and the National Collegiate Hockey Conference named him Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

The Broncos tied Alaska 3-3 in the tournament championship, but couldn’t take the title during the shootout.

Junior goaltender Frank Slubowski picked up league honors, as well; the Broncos’ leader between the pipes recorded a .914 save percentage and was 1-0-1 in tournament play.

Berschbach, Slubowski and sophomore forward Colton Hargrove were named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the weekend.

WMU recorded a 6-2 win over Alaska Anchorage in their first game of the tournament on Friday.
