Shaved Ice – August 23

Hockey season cannot return fast enough.

Where to begin?

The MiHockey team caught up with Torey Krug this week – the Livonia native talked about coming home to East Lansing, his #LegendOfKrug postseason play, and more. See the whole article right here.

The Grand Rapids Griffins released their 2013-14 regular-season schedule yesterday, which means we’re that much closer to watching the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate raise a Calder Cup championship banner to the rafters of Van Andel Arena.

The Red Wings have also released scheduling news – click here to see their local TV and radio broadcast schedule.

Speaking of the Red Wings, Pavel Datsyuk’s been in the news lately, and not for his on-ice performances. When asked about his country’s anti-gay law – which is causing international controversy as Olympic Games in Sochi approach – the Russian star said “I’m an orthodox and that says it all,” according to Russian journalist Igor Eronko. What are your thoughts about his answer? Do you think countries should boycott the Games?

And back to the Griffins – did you see that they will be playing a preseason game at Compuware Arena in Plymouth?

We also caught up with former Ferris State star Zach Redmond, who talked about how his summer is going. Normal is a good word for it, considering what he’s been through.

Because what better on a Friday than watching the Griffins celebrate a title?

The Washington Capitals have signed Mikhail Grabovski to a one-year deal. The 29-year-old had nine goals and seven assists last year for the Leafs.

Douglas Murray has signed a one-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens.

New Vancouver coach John Tortorella said he has spoken with Roberto Luongo, and the goaltender is ready to play. For the sake of that franchise, hopefully he’s right.

Hall of Famer Brian Leetch and You Can Play Project co-founder Brendan Burke, the son of Brian Burke, have both joined the NHL Department of Player Safety.

It doesn’t have any hockey in it, but sports is sports. And this Nike commercial is awesome.

Hope everybody has a great weekend.
