Shaved Ice – May 6

Game 4 tonight.

Tonight, the Red Wings look for revenge. After a Game 3 shutout, Detroit will be looking to take advantage of playing at Joe Louis Arena and even the series before heading back to California for Game 5.

The Wings will have to compete without hometown hero Justin Abdelkader, however; the Muskegon native was given a two-game suspension by the NHL for his hit on Toni Lydman during Game 3. Mikael Samuelsson will be taking his spot on the top line with Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk, according to reports.

The Grand Rapids Griffins have advanced to the second round of the AHL Playoffs after administering quite the beat-down in their winner-take-all Game 5 showdown with Houston. The USHL Futures Draft is tonight, and we’re expecting plenty of Michigan kids to hear their names called. Here’s a look at last year’s draft – Cody Milan was taken at No. 9 overall.

This should get everybody fired up for tonight’s big game.

Team USA is off to a hot start at the World Championships. The American squad picked up a 4-1 win over Latvia yesterday, with goals coming from Michigan natives David Moss and Matt Hunwick. It was their second win in as many days, after they opened tournament play with a 5-3 win over Austria on Saturday.

Chris Kunitz is our Michi-gamer of the day after scoring the game-winner for the Penguins yesterday.

Brendan Gallagher, Jonathan Huberdeau and former Saginaw Spirit captain Brandon Saad are this year’s finalists for the Calder Trophy.
