A dream season for the Honeybaked Bantam Major team has resulted in them earning the right to say they are the best 14U team in the country.

At the 4:45 mark of the second overtime, Mitch Lewandowski broke a 2-2 tie between Honeybaked and Shattuck-St. Mary’s to lead the Michigan squad to the USA Hockey National Championship at the 14U Tier 1 level in Pittsburgh.

Lewandowski also opened the scoring for the Michigan representatives, giving HB a 1-0 lead at the 7:15 mark of the opening period. Patrick Khodorenko had the lone assist on the play.

Yet Shattuck rebounded from the early deficit, scoring once in the first and once in early in the third to gain a 2-1 lead in the title game.

Michael Pastujov scored the game-tying goal for Honeybaked at the 15:09 mark of the third, assisted by Lewandowski.

The score would remain tied at two through the rest of regulation, and through the first overtime period, before Lewandowski scored the winner in double OT.
