Shaved Ice – Feb. 19

Wings take on those Predators tonight.

Detroit visits Nashville tonight in a Central Division clash. It’s the first trip back to his old barn for Jordin Tootoo after he left Nashville for Hockeytown during the off-season.  Jonas Gustavsson has returned to the Wings’ locker room, but since they’ve had a bit of a breather, there’s a pretty good chance we’ll see Jimmy Howard between the pipes.

The Free Press is reporting that Johan Franzen and Brendan Smith are close to returning…that would be a big lift for the Wings.

The latest high school hockey rankings are out, with Novi/Detroit Catholic Central taking the top spot in Division 1.

We just posted a bunch of youth hockey articles, here are some links to a few of them:

And in case you missed it yesterday, here are some of the Hockey Day in Michigan features we shared:

We had a great time at Suburban Ice Farmington Hills watching kids participate in hockey for the first time. Click on the picture to see our full gallery from the Try Hockey For Free skate. (Michael Caples/MiHockey)
We also posted a photo gallery of the two boys' Catholic High School League championship games that took place at Joe Louis Arena. (Andrew Knapik/MiHockey)
And check out our recap from the Michigan State vs. Northern Michigan came that capped off Hockey Day in Michigan for the MiHockey crew. (Michael Caples/MiHockey)

Because why shouldn’t we watch this clip today?

Sounds like the University of Nebraska isn’t getting much closer to having a hockey team. Bummer.

Livonia native Aaron Palushaj is our Michi-gamer of the day after a goal and two assists during a Presidents’ Day matinee game.

Devin Setoguchi was fined $8,108.11 for his high-stick to Kyle Quincey on Friday.

The Blackhawks are one game away from a modern-day record for best start to an NHL season. Should it really count in this lockout-shortened season though?

Mitch Callahan vs…a bear…in a scooter race through Van Andel. Awesome.

See everyone tomorrow.
