Shaved Ice – Feb. 18

Hope everybody enjoyed Hockey Day in Michigan 2013 and Hockey Weekend Across America.

We had quite the weekend, with it being a hockey holiday and all. There’s plenty more Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan coverage coming throughout the next few days, but here’s a few of the highlights…

We had a great time at Suburban Ice Farmington Hills watching kids participate in hockey for the first time. Click on the picture to see our full gallery from the Try Hockey For Free skate. (Michael Caples/MiHockey)
We also posted a photo gallery of the two boys' Catholic High School League championship games that took place at Joe Louis Arena. (Andrew Knapik/MiHockey)
And check out our recap from the Michigan State vs. Northern Michigan came that capped off Hockey Day in Michigan for the MiHockey crew. (Michael Caples/MiHockey)

That’s only a small part of what happened during Hockey Day in Michigan. Check out our blog for more pictures and tweets about what people were up to throughout the day.

The Wings return to action tomorrow night when they take on the Predators in Nashville. Jonas Gustavsson will be back with the team after concluding a short conditioning stint with the Griffins to get back in game shape. To make room for ‘The Monster’, Petr Mrazek has been reassigned to Grand Rapids.

Detroit will be looking to bounce back from a poor showing Friday night…read about that one right here.

Ryan Miller made sure he would be on all the highlight-reel packages for Hockey Day in America yesterday with this glove save. Wow.

NBC was all over Hockey Day in America, with videos and features throughout the day to celebrate the game and those making it grow. Here’s one of their online features about how hockey is growing in new places, thanks to USA Hockey’s efforts in Colorado and…Ann Arbor.

The NHL will keep the same system for selecting who drafts first, according to TSN. At least with how much talent the Oilers now have, they won’t be able to get the top pick again, due to finishing higher in the standings…right? RIGHT?

If it makes you feel any better, that rookie goalie that frustrated the Red Wings on behalf of the St. Louis Blues still hasn’t lost a game. Jake Allen is now 3-0-0 on the year. Not bad.

Wade MacLeod, the AHL player who suffered a seizure during his game last night, is stable and tweeting. Glad to hear he’s OK. More on that story from Puck Daddy right here.

Oh yeah, and by the way, those Chicago Blackhawk guys still haven’t lost a game in regulation. They beat the Kings on national TV yesterday.

Notre Dame vs. Miami…outside.

One man attended his first hockey game yesterday. On-the-glass seats, too – considering he’s 101 years old, I think he’s earned it.

See everyone tomorrow.
