Shaved Ice – Jan. 9

Press day can’t stop us from a Shaved Ice post.

We’re hard at work on the next issue of MiHockeyMag. Spoiler alert – some Michigan natives who just got back from Russia are going to be on the cover.

Speaking of just getting back from Russia, we had an exclusive interview with Jacob Trouba last night. Click here to see what the Rochester native and Wolverines defenseman had to say about winning gold at the World Juniors.

The Wolverines fell to the Bowling Green Falcons last night in a disappointing showing at Yost.

It’s time to get ready for Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan – if you take a second look at the banner across the top of this site, you will know that we’re pretty excited for the event. We’re also one of the official partners of the group that puts on the annual celebration of hockey in Michigan (I heard Ron Burgundy saying “I’m kind of a big deal” while I was writing that).

Two Western Michigan alums are joining the Kalamazoo K-Wings today – click here to see the release.

I don’t know about you, but these GriffVision videos get me fired up to play some hockey.

Brian Burke gets the ax in Toronto. Still trying to figure out the decision process here. While he clearly hasn’t turned the Leafs into a Cup contender, firing the guy in charge of assembling your team when you only have two weeks to get them ready for a shortened NHL season doesn’t sound like the best idea in the world. There’s enough chaos that team has to deal with right now – canning Burke just adds some gasoline to the fire.

News conference expected to start at 4 p.m. for the Board of Governors to – fingers crossed – announce that they have formally approved the new CBA.

DO. NOT. MESS. THIS. UP.

Ilya Kovalchuk is on the roster for a KHL All-Star game to be played this Sunday, adding to the speculation that the Russian superstar may not be coming back when the NHL starts back up.

The latest look at scheduling from Puck Daddy has the trade deadline occurring in the first week of April, and the playoffs concluding on June 28.

See you all tomorrow.
