Shaved Ice – Jan. 24

Almost Friday.

We’re getting to Shaved Ice a little late today, due to the cross-country journey we went on last night. It wasn’t actually a cross-country trek, but it felt like we were driving through Alaska with all the snow that was coming down on our way to Muskegon for the USHL Top Prospects Game. However, once we got there, it was a great experience. Check out our recap from the event right here – we also have a photo gallery coming shortly.

The Wings return to action tomorrow night in a home game against the Minnesota Wild. In the latest Freep update, Carlos Monarrez says that Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg have been split up, and that Valtteri Filppula’s knee is bothering him a little bit.

Bill Roose of DRW.com tweeted a picture of Tom McCollum’s mask yesterday – the back features a painting of the late, great Chris Farley.

Hard to argue with the list, but we would have liked to see our boy Jeff Lerg on there.

Hockey Night in Canada has a way with video montages. This one delivers, once again.

Will the Habs find a way to sign P.K. Subban? I know a team in need of a top defenseman (don’t let that sentence get you excited, though).

Jamie Benn and Ryan O’Reilly still haven’t signed, either, joining Subban as the three top restricted free agents still waiting for a contract.

Joffrey Lupul signed a big extension with the Leafs, and celebrated the occasion by breaking his forearm in a game three days later. He’s expected to be out for six to eight weeks.

The Avalanche have lost Steve Downie to a season-ending knee injury.
