Shaved Ice – Dec. 24

Needless to say, there won’t be a Shaved Ice tomorrow.

No college or juniors this weekend, but there was still great hockey to watch. We were at Compuware on Friday to see the Red Wings’ alumni take part in a charity game to raise money for a fallen police officer. Click here to see our article on the game, along with a photo gallery that has more than 70 images.

We released our list of the 50 most influential people in Michigan’s hockey scene on Friday. Click here, or follow the graphic below, to see who we named to the list this year.

Check out our article on how the construction of a high school hockey program at Grand Rapids Public is going – this is a great read for all hockey people. Great effort by coach Brian Bellgraph to try to construct something of this magnitude in the inner city.

Thought that hearing from Justin Abdelkader on Christmas Eve wouldn’t be a bad thing…

Wisconsin’s Jake McCabe has been named captain of the U.S. World Juniors squad – Jacob Trouba and J.T. Miller are two of the alternate captains for the Red, White and Blue. The U.S. still has 24 players listed on their roster, and they have to get down to 23 by tomorrow.

Top story on TSN right now is about how one of the Canada World Juniors team members had to shave his beard before showing up for the international tournament. They sure do love that tournament up there. Guess it’s also a slow news day…

The players voted in favor of a disclaimer of interest (end being a union). Now we have to wait and see if they actually go through with it. Ultimate trump card, or a sign of even more headaches for fans?

We’ve got a contest up and running on both our Twitter and Facebook pages. Here’s one of the graphics…today’s the last day to enter!

MiHockey is giving away five Reebok 20K sticks through Christmas Eve. Tweet something good you're doing this holiday season to @MiHockeyNow and use the hashtag #MiNiceList to be entered to win.

Have a great Christmas tomorrow, everyone. We’ll see you on Twitter and Facebook, but we won’t have a Shaved Ice for you. Enjoy this time with your family and friends.
