Shaved Ice – October 23

Tuesday mornings are always a little slower after a disappointing Monday Night Football performance.

With not much hockey being played last night (at the pro/college/juniors level, anyway) we had to go searching for a Michi-gamer. A quick travel across the pond revealed that Drew Miller’s already making an impression in Scotland. Find out what he’s up to right here.

Three of the four CCHA players of the week have a connection to our great state: Ferris State’s Andy Huff, Western Michigan’s Dan DeKeyser, and Michigan native Riley Barber (plays for Miami).

The Whalers’ Tom Wilson has been named to the OHL roster for the 2012 Subway Super Series, where Canadian teams from the three major junior leagues take on Team Russia. Saginaw Spirit goaltender Jake Paterson also made the team.

Niklas Kronwall is the latest player to speak up against the league, saying that the NHL had ‘an agenda’ against the union.

On a more positive note for the Wings, the team has been supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month all week – and Chris Chelios is holding a charity autograph session on Thursday to help in his own way. See the legendary defenseman from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy.

Not gonna lie, the different colors for the helmets really threw me off while watching Henrik Zetterberg’s first goal over in Europe. Strange stuff.

The latest drama in the CBA negotiations may just be the conversations between GMs and players. I guess it’s understandable why the players’ union heads would be upset about the management talking to the players, it’s almost like being a spy. Ken Holland would make a great James Bond, in my opinion.

With nothing else to do, Ben Eager got himself into trouble at a bar in Toronto. Just another reason why we need the NHL back…

Marc Savard returning to hockey continues to look worse and worse; he tweeted that he’s not coming back in the foreseeable future after a disappointing attempt at working out. It’s terrible news; no player should ever have their career cut short due to injury, and I hope that Savard’s brain injuries don’t last him the rest of his life.
