Shaved Ice – October 17

Go Tigers.

Well, I think some of that initial excitement from the NHL’s proposal has died down. Now we wait and see what the PA comes up with in response. More on that in the ‘Outside the Mitten’ section of this blog.

We’ve named Max Shuart our Michi-gamer of the night, after he helped his Muskegon Lumberjacks top the NTDP in Ann Arbor, which bumped them up to the top spot in the USHL’s Eastern Conference. Check it out.

MiHockey’s Stefan Kubus stopped by Munn yesterday for the Spartans’ Tuesday press conference. Here’s his article about how MSU will be looking to take some positives out of their weekend visit in Minnesota, and how they’ll try to forget some of it, too.

Speaking of talented prospects coming out of our youth hockey scene in Michigan, check out this NHL.com video with Mike Downing. Get to know him, he’s going to be picked real high in next summer’s NHL Draft.

The NHL has released (allegedly in full text) their latest proposal to the NHLPA. You know, that one that got everybody worked into a frenzy yesterday.

Just remember, the league and the players are competing for PR points in all of this, too. If the PA comes out with plenty of reasons why they aren’t agreeing on the proposal, examine why before formulating an opinion.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie says that the proposal didn’t spark the excitement for the PA the way it did for the fans.

ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun writes that the NHL season hangs in the balance of how Fehr responds to the proposal. Hard to argue; if the union says it’s a joke, the league could very well say “OK, forget that one, here’s what we really want” and erase any progress.

Check out this video from the Griffins’ home opener, shot by a fan in the stands. Looks like a great atmosphere for some hockey.

See you all tomorrow.
