Shaved Ice – October 12

Hey look, it’s Friday!

For at least the first half of the game, the Michigan Wolverines looked like they would have no problem recording a win in their regular-season opener against RIT. Then, the Tigers started chipping away, and eventually forced overtime, where they would score 14 seconds in. Needless to say, few were thrilled at Yost after watching a 3-0 first-period lead dissolve throughout the game.

Jacob Trouba, however, had quite a night, and we named him our Michi-gamer.

Get ready for the Griffins’ season kick-off by watching this video, where the Griffins’ media team left a GoPro running on the bench during a game. Pretty cool.

TSN is reporting that there wasn’t much movement from either side of the lockout debate over the last two days, and there’s nothing scheduled for today.

Aleksander Barkov, currently playing in the Finnish Elite League, could give Nathan McKinnon and Seth Jones company at the top of the NHL Draft watch boards.

Is John Davidson going to take over the Blue Jackets? Seeing how the Blues are turning it around, maybe it’s not the worst idea in the world for Columbus…

Rich Hammond, the Kings’ reporter for their official site, is leaving for a new job after the NHL apparently tried to cut in on his journalistic integrity. It’s always been interesting for me to watch how it goes for Hammond, who seemed to have complete freedom to be a proper journalist while being paid by a team. However, this makes one reconsider the notion of complete unbiased journalism, if the league indeed did try to intervene on a particular article.

Back at Yost tonight, while DVRing the Michigan State/Minnesota game at the same time. Excited for another weekend full of hockey.
