Shaved Ice – October 1

Aaaaand we’re back from Buffalo.

Quick hits

I spent about 14 hours in a car with MiHockey writer Matt Mackinder this weekend, as we journeyed out to Buffalo for the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game. Here’s Matt’s recap (I tried taking the photos) of the game, which featured the top U.S.-born players eligible for next year’s NHL Draft. Honeybaked won both the midget major and midget minor divisions of the Compuware/Honeybaked Invitational over the weekend. Here’s a photo gallery from Day 1 of the event.

Busy day at Yost on Oct. 7; before the AHL preseason game between the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Lake Erie Monsters, the Wolverines will hold their Blue/White intrasquad scrimmage and then their annual “Skate with the Wolverines” event. More info can be found right here.

Is Pat LaFontaine thinking about joining a group of investors to buy the Islanders? New leadership wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for that organization.

Three straight days of talks between the NHL and the NHLPA concluded on Sunday, now they’re taking a breather. Better be a short breather, boys. Get back in there.
