Quick hits

We’re still cruising through our team previews to get ready for the upcoming season. The latest two posted are teams that don’t exactly like each other – the Wolverines and the Spartans. Can’t wait for the latest edition of the in-state rivalry to take place this winter.

Yesterday Tomas Tatar tweeted that he would be joining a team in his homeland of Slovakia; today Ansar Khan of MLive is reporting that it will only be until the Griffins’ season starts. However, Damien Brunner might be staying in Switzerland during the lockout.

The NHL has officially cancelled their September pre-season games, by the way.

The Wings will be hosting a youth hockey clinic in Traverse City on Saturday, Sept. 22. Two hundred kids will have a chance to take part.

Brendan Morrison will be joining the University of Michigan Athletics Hall of Fame in February.

The Whalers checked in at No. 7 in the first 2012-13 CHL Mastercard Top 10 Rankings. They start regular-season play Friday in Sault Ste. Marie.

There aren’t any meetings scheduled between the NHL and the NHLPA this week.

NHL staffers are facing a work reduction during the lockout.

Steve Levy is going to host the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Texas on Oct. 15.
