Quick hits

Sounds like the Michigan Daily vs. Kitchener Rangers argument has finally ended.

Lots of Winter Classic Alumni Showdown news surfacing, as Aaron Ward, Paul Coffey, Jimmy Carson, and Michigan Wolverines head coach Red Berenson are all set to suit up for Detroit.

Also, it appears Steve Yzerman will reportedly not be participating, but did not offer a reason why. You have to think his current duties as GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning are the exact reason why, but either way it would be sad to see him pass on this.

With the threat of a lockout looming, the Detroit Red Wings have officially cancelled the NHL Prospects Tournament held in Traverse City every year.

Highlight reel

Last season’s thrilling Hockey Night in Canada battle between the Maple Leafs and Red Wings, a 4-3 win for Toronto, is now also the last time the two teams have met.

Outside the Mitten

Toronto is bulking up their roster, as well. Recent Hall-of-Fame inductee Mats Sundin, enforcer Tie Domi, and another Hall of Fame member in Lanny McDonald are reportedly joining the Toronto Maple Leafs squad.

The Nashville Predators, in an attempt to lessen the loss of Ryan Suter, added veteran Scott Hannan on a one-year deal to help stabilize the blue line in the Music City.
