Shaved Ice – July 6

MiHockey writer Stefan Kubus here with you on a Friday.

Quick hits

The Detroit Red Wings may have come away without Ryan Suter or Zach Parise, but they didn’t walk away completely empty-handed. Yesterday, former Edmonton Oilers bench boss Tom Renney will join Mike Babcock behind the bench as an assistant coach.

While the Red Wings have been in rumors to land Columbus star power forward Rick Nash, it’s Bobby Ryan, a power forward from Anaheim that the Wings may have an easier time acquiring.

A total of 16 NHL free agents have elected to go the route of arbitration, with Detroit’s Kyle Quincey being one of them. Justin Abdelkader, also a RFA for Detroit, has not elected to go to arbitration.

Highlight reel

Take a look at some of the best from Bobby Ryan, and see if you think he’d look outstanding donning the Winged Wheel.

Outside the Mitten

The Columbus Blue Jackets have inked the recently-acquired Nick Foligno to a three-year, $9.15M deal.

No intricate details to report, but the NHL and NHLPA held their second CBA meeting Thursday, and will reconvene this morning.
