Shaved Ice – July 2

Another Monday means another start of the work week. MiHockey staffer Stefan Kubus here to help ease you into your Monday and get you up to speed for the day.

Quick hits

As many expected, Detroit Red Wings’ GM Ken Holland was busy working the phones on July 1st to help address key areas of concern in Hockeytown. Holland added three new faces and brought back a former Red Wing.

The Wings are still waiting to find out if they have landed coveted free agents Ryan Suter and Zach Parise.

In case you missed it, the Michigan State Spartans unveiled new home and road uniforms for the 2012-13 season, along with a vintage set of sweaters to be worn in the outdoor 2012 Great Lakes Invitational.

Highlight reel

I’m sure we can get used to watching monstrous hits like these in Detroit from the newly-signed Jordin Tootoo.

Outside the Mitten

At age 40 and fresh off of a Stanley Cup Final appearance, future Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur will be staying with the team he’s backstopped every game of his career for, inking a two-year deal with the New Jersey Devils worth $9 million.

With the Nashville Predators potentially on the brink of losing defenseman Ryan Suter to free agency, another top player has officially bolted to Russia. Alexander Radulov, who joined the Preds at the end of last season for their playoff run, has signed on with CSKA – former Red Wing Sergei Fedorov is the GM of the club – of the KHL to a four-year deal worth 300 million rubies, equivalent to around $9.2 million per year.
