Bearded Ice – June 8

Bearded Ice, Shaved Ice meets the NHL playoff tradition of not shaving.

MiHockey’s Stefan Kubus here with you on Friday…we have almost survived another work week.

Quick hits

It appears that the University of Michigan will square off against Cornell in “The Frozen Apple” on Saturday, Nov. 24 at Madison Square Garden in New York. A photo has been circulating on Twitter (shared around here by Michigan Daily report Matt Slovin) from Cornell’s 2012 reunion.

Don’t forget to come out Sunday and help an Ann Arbor adult league team raise money for breast cancer awareness!

Highlight reel

Here’s an inside look at Livonia native Ryan Kesler from last year’s run to the Stanley Cup Final with the Vancouver Canucks.

Outside the Mitten

While the Los Angeles Kings won’t have a chance to tie the ’88 Edmonton Oilers for the best playoff record, they still have a chance to bring home the first Stanley Cup in franchise history as well as be the first team to win it all as a No. 8 seed.

The L.A. Kings are a perfect 10-0 on the road this postseason, while in Games 4-7, the Devils are 9-1. Something will have to give in Game 5.

Check it out

The Norfolk Admirals and Toronto Marlies hit the ice for Game 3 of the AHL’s Calder Cup last night. With as good of a goaltending duel as it was, naturally a goal like this broke the scoreless tie in overtime, no less.

Not so fast. It appears that the Admirals still had a player well in the offensive zone on the delayed offside. Oh well. The goal counted, the Admirals now have a 3-0 commanding series lead, and the AHL admitted the wrong call was made.

Game 5 is tomorrow night. Enjoy the game, and enjoy your weekend. Best wishes from MiHockey!
