Quick hits

After cruising through the preliminary round, hopes were high for the American squad at the 2012 World Championship. Yet all of a sudden, they’ve been eliminated from the tournament. The U.S. lost to Finland today, giving up a goal with eight seconds remaining that broke a 2-2 tie, ending their quest for gold in the first elimination game they played. We’ll have more on how the Michigan connections fared over the course of the tournament tomorrow.

Outside the Mitten

The Americans weren’t the only ones to be upset in the quarters; Canada lost earlier this morning to Slovakia. It’s the third straight year that the Canadians go home early.

Meanwhile, in the NHL, the Rangers and Devils are all tied up after New Jersey posted a 3-2 win last night.

Tonight, the Kings can take a 3-0 series lead on the Coyotes. Here’s a game preview in case you need to play catch-up on this series.
