Shaved Ice – March 19

Welcome back to the work (or school) world, everybody. Hope you can get through the week, because the NCAA Tournament is just five days away for four of our teams.

Quick hits

Four Michigan teams earned spots in college hockey’s national tournament yesterday. That’s the most teams of any one state in the country. How’s that for some Mitten pride? Michigan and Ferris State are in the Midwest Region, Western Michigan is in the West Region, and Michigan State is in East Region. Here’s more info to get you ready for the NCAAs. Games start Friday afternoon, so start planning out your story for your boss on how to get out early. I like how I get to say it’s for work…

Western Michigan goes charging into the tournament after topping Michigan for the CCHA title. Here’s our recap of their 3-2 win, and a look at how they keep giving the Wolverines headaches in the league playoffs.

In the CCHA consolation game, Washington, Mich. native Austin Czarnik had quite the game.

In the professional hockey scene, the Red Wings return home tonight to battle the Washington Capitals.

Highlight reel

Here’s the highlights from Western Michigan’s 3-2 win over Michigan to take home the Mason Cup.

Outside the Mitten

Grand Rapids native Drayson Bowman is making the most of his opportunity with the Carolina Hurricanes right now. He’s our Michi-gamer of the weekend.

Despite Sidney Crosby returning to the line-up, the Flyers were able to end the Penguins’ 11-game win streak over the weekend.

Reports out of Russia say that Predators forward Alexander Radulov is finally clear to come back to the NHL. That’s probably not what the Red Wings wanted to hear.

On Friday, the Wolverines put an end to Bowling Green’s upset-filled CCHA tournament run.
