Shaved Ice – March 16

Happy Friday, everyone.

Quick hits

We had a great time at the CCHA Awards Show last night. Darren Eliot and Shannon Hogan did a great job hosting a tremendously well-assembled event. Oh yeah, and players were honored too. Here’s our recap of the winners from the awards show.

Along with taking home CCHA Player of the Year, MSU captain Torey Krug was named as a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. Joining him on the ballot is UM goaltender Shawn Hunwick. It’d be tough to pick between the two Michigan-born players…glad I’m not getting called on to vote.

And in our final college hockey news of the morning…the CCHA Championships start this afternoon. We’ll be there for all the action.

The Red Wings have recalled goaltender Jordan Pearce from Grand Rapids. He’ll join the team for their Saturday match-up in San Jose.

Here’s the video of Krug accepting his CCHA Player of the Year award.

Outside the Mitten

Fraser native and former Plymouth Whalers star Chad LaRose is our Michi-gamer of the night after scoring the game-winner for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Hate him or love him, Sidney Crosby returned to NHL action last night, which is important for the game. The superstar finished with one assist and a +3 rating upon his return.

Alexander Radulov’s return to the NHL will be decided by whether he can escape his contract with the KHL.
