Shaved Ice – March 12

Good afternoon and welcome to a new week.  Staffer Brian Kalisher here to start it off right.

Quick hits

The Red Wings topped the Kings 4-3 Friday night before dropping a decision the next night to the Predators 3-2.  They currently sit fourth in the Western Conference with 91 points, just six behind the Central division-leading St. Louis Blues.

The Wings take on Los Angeles again tomorrow night, this time at their barn.

As far as college hockey goes, the CCHA championship match-ups are set. Here’s a quick preview.

We were at Yost Ice Arena all weekend, where the Wolverines defeated Notre Dame in double OT on Saturday to secure a spot at the Joe once again.

Highlight reel

We mentioned last week that Jimmy Howard and Joey MacDonald were going to sign autographs for charity.  Now, here’s some video evidence.

Outside the Mitten

The NHL’s GM meetings began today.  According to NHL.com, they began by focusing on their players’ safety.

Former Plymouth Whaler and Detroit native David Legwand posted three helpers in Nashville’s 3-2 victory over the Red Wings on Saturday.  One of those assists was on Andrei Kostitsyn’s game-winner, making Legwand Michi-gamer of the weekend.
