Shaved Ice – Jan. 11

So I guess we could call this one the 5 o’clock shadow version of Shaved Ice? My apologies on the massive delay – sometimes press day gets the best of us.

Quick hits

Mike Babcock’s had plenty to be upset about last night. His Red Wings team didn’t have a good trip to New York, dropping a 5-1 decision to the Islanders (a team that currently sits in 15th place in the East). Pavel Datsyuk missed the game with a lower-body injury. And to top it off, New York coach Jack Capuano called a time-out with 22 seconds left in a game where his team held a four-goal lead. Necessary? Doubt it. Reason enough for Babcock to be upset? Certainly. There’s not an official rules book out there for ‘how to coach a hockey game’ but I’d be willing to guess that if there was, that would be in one of the first few chapters.

Highlight reel

Since there’s not really much to see out of the Wings game, here’s an awesome hockey video I found on YouTube for you.

Outside the Mitten

Tyler Seguin scored the game-winner for the Bruins yesterday, and the backhand snipe earned him our Michi-gamer of the night status. That’s his second Michi-gamer nod in less than a week, which makes sense – Seguin leads the NHL in plus-minus.

Next up

Tomorrow I’ll be visiting the National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor. Should have some good tweets for you. And we’ll have coverage of the Wings game tomorrow night. Busy, busy, busy.
