One Michigan resident cracked this week’s WCHA players of the week list, and he’s currently residing in Houghton.

Michigan Tech freshman forward Gavin Gould was named the conference’s rookie of the week, it was announced today.

Gould, a native of North Vancouver, B.C., tied for the NCAA rookie lead with two goals this past weekend, while also tying the WCHA lead with three total points.

He played a crucial role in Michigan Tech’s home sweep of then-No. 20 Lake Superior State. In just his fourth career NCAA game on Friday, Gould scored his first two career goals, finding the back of the net twice in the third period to guide MTU to a 6-1 win.

On Saturday, he assisted on the game-tying goal as the Huskies clawed back for a 4-2 victory over their in-state rivals.
