The Red Wings announced today that they have locked up two of their prospects with new contracts.
Detroit has re-signed forward Mitch Callahan to a one-year contract, while also agreeing to terms with defenseman Nick Jensen on a two-year deal.
Callahan, a native of Whittier, Calif., has played in 237 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins throughout the last four seasons, recording 111 points, 271 penalty minutes and a plus-20 rating. The 23-year-old forward was a sixth-round pick of the Wings in the 2009 NHL Draft, and he made his NHL debut during the 2013-14 season, playing in Columbus on March 25, 2014.
Jensen, a native of Rogers, Minn., recorded 27 points in 75 games with the Griffins last year, tripling his numbers from his AHL rookie year in 2013-14. A three-year member of the St. Cloud State University team, the 24-year-old defenseman was a fifth-round pick in 2009.
