Shaved Ice – June 14

Can the Griffins finish the job tonight?

The Griffins battle the Syracuse Crunch tonight at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. What’s on the line? Nothing much, just the Calder Cup. With a 3-0 series lead, the Wings’ AHL affiliate can end the series and start on quite a weekend party. If they can’t, they get another shot at capturing the team’s first AHL championship tomorrow night.

Get caught up on the series by checking out our recaps from Game 1, Game 2 and Game 3.

Adam Almquist did not practice with the team yesterday, after he was knocked out of Game 3 with a violent hit in the first period. If he doesn’t make it back to the line-up, MLive.com’s Peter Wallner says to expect Jeff Skinner to dress.

In other news…

The Plymouth Whalers shouldn’t be expecting their top pick from this year’s draft to be in their line-up next year. We caught up with Jordan Greenway – find out his plans right here.

MiHockey writer Dave Waddell says that the Red Wings answered plenty of questions during the 2013 season.

Get fired up.

Tomorrow, the Bruins and the Blackhawks get back to work. Chicago took Game 1 in a triple-OT thriller. Who takes Game 2?

Torey Krug will be looking to make up for the mistake he made in Game 1 that jumpstarted the Blackhawks’ comeback.

Because of the extended postseason – NHL hockey’s going a little later than usual – the league will announce their major awards prior to Game 2 tomorrow night. Pavel Datsyuk is up for the Selke…per usual…and that one will be announced today.

Evgeni Malkin has signed a $76-million extension with the Penguins. That deal comes just after the club gave an extension to bench boss and Grand Haven native Dan Bylsma.

The Canadian Hockey League (the OHL, WHL and QMJHL) has announced that the 2013 Import Draft will be the last time their member clubs can select European goaltenders.
