Red Wings acquire Cody Goloubef off waivers from Ottawa

Right now, the expectation would be that the Red Wings would be giving away players, not adding new ones.

Guess Steve Yzerman liked what he saw on the waiver wire, though.

According to multiple reports, Detroit has claimed defenseman Cody Goloubef off waivers.

Goloubef, 30, was placed on waivers by Ottawa yesterday, after having played in 24 games with the Senators this season.

A second-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2008, the Oakville, Ont., native has in 158 NHL games over the course of 10 professional seasons.

Goloubef is a Wisconsin Badgers alum who has been a part of the Columbus, Calgary and Ottawa organizations while bouncing between the NHL and AHL.
