By @MichaelCaples –

The Detroit Red Wings just announced an initiative with Labatt Blue to help a nearby outdoor rink.

The two entities will team up to invest $15,000 and 300 volunteer hours to renovate Clark Park’s ice rink on Friday.

Volunteers from both organizations will spend the day painting, landscaping and rebuilding the rental skate area.

“Our organization is honored to team up with Labatt Blue and engage in this volunteer project for our friends at the Clark Park Coalition,” said Chris Granger, Group President, Sports & Entertainment, Ilitch Holdings, Inc. “The hockey rink at Clark Park is one of just a handful of public facilities in the city of Detroit. The Red Wings remain committed to supporting local rinks and growing the game of hockey in our great city.”

Clark Park’s mission: “Our mission in keeping the Clark Park Recreation Center open is to mentor community youth by providing diverse, quality recreation, educational, and social skills programs.”
