Kyle VanCompernolle will be staying in his home state for his college hockey career.

The Williamsburg native has given a verbal commitment to Michigan Tech.

“I picked Michigan Tech because of the chance to play for a world-class hockey program, all while getting the same level of education,” VanCompernolle told MiHockey. “I love the coaching staff, and feel that it will be a great fit for me.”

The Fox Motors 16U forward will be bringing plenty of size to the Huskies’ line-up in the future; VanCompernolle checks in at 6-foot-6 and 190 pounds at just 17 years of age.

In 25 Tier 1 Elite Hockey League games this past season, he led the Fox Motors 16U squad with 33 points.

VanCompernolle said he can’t wait to play in front of the student section in Houghton.

“Something very exciting for me about going to Michigan Tech – and playing college hockey in general – is the atmosphere at games,” the towering forward said. “Growing up playing AA and AAA hockey you don’t get the excitement of playing in front of your friends, classmates, and community. Houghton is one of the best hockey towns in the United States and I feel as if there is no better place to play home games.”
