PLYMOUTH – Trenton gets their rematch.

With a 4-0 victory over Marquette in the second of two MHSAA Division 2 state semifinal match-ups at USA Hockey Arena, the Trojans have secured a spot in Saturday’s championship game against the team the won the earlier game – Hartland.

That means it will be a rematch of the 2018 MHSAA D2 state title game.

Hartland won last year; time will only tell for what happens in Round 2.

For a while Thursday night, a rematch seemed slightly in doubt. Despite holding an early 1-0 lead, Marquette controlled play for the first two periods of the semifinal showdown.

Goals from Nolan Szczepaniak and Gregory Obrycki in the first 1:34 of the third period changed things in a hurry however – in the Trojans’ favor.

From there, it was all Trenton, as they skated away with a 4-0 win over the Redmen.

Alex Perrin scored Trenton’s first goal, while Zachary Teichart added the final strike with 10 seconds remaining in the third period.

Goaltender Joey Cormier stopped all 37 shots sent his way for the win between the pipes; Trenton coach Chad Clements said it was either his seventh or eighth shutout on the season.

Tyler Bergwall made 29 saves for Marquette in the loss.

The Division 2 championship game between Trenton and Hartland will begin at 10:05 a.m. Saturday morning at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.
