After helping their Northern Michigan squad to a sweep of then-No. 18 Lake Superior State this past weekend, a pair of Wildcats have earned some recognition.

Yesterday, Troy Loggins was named the WCHA’s forward of the week, while Atte Tolvanen was named the goaltender of the week by the conference.

Today, Loggins was named the No. 3 star of the week for the entire NCAA, and rightfully so.

The Huntington Beach, Calif., native posted five points in two games in the in-state rivalry sweep. Loggins recorded two assists in Friday’s 4-2 win, then he scored the first two goals and set up the game-winner in Saturday’s 5-3 victory.

Loggins leads NMU in scoring and goals with 32 and 17, respectively.

Tolvanen, meanwhile, picked up his fourth WCHA goaltender of the week selection of the season, after he won both games for NMU. He finished with a .906 save percentage in the series while allowing just five goals.

He is two games away from the Northern Michigan career record for games played; the native of Vihti, Finland, has appeared in 131 contests for the Wildcats.
