Hronek establishes new Griffins franchise record

By @MichaelCaples –

Filip Hronek has found a unique way to shine for the Grand Rapids Griffins of late.

He’s established a new franchise record for the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate.

Hronek scored the game-winner for the Griffins in overtime Monday night, giving Grand Rapids a 3-2 victory over the Iowa Wild on the road.

He did the same thing on Saturday – scoring in the extra period to lead Grand Rapids to a 4-3 win in Chicago against the Wolves.

The Wings’ second-round pick from 2016 and a Saginaw Spirit alum is the first Grand Rapids player to accomplish the feat of scoring back-to-back overtime game-winners for the franchise.

Hronek now has three goals on the season for GR (he also scored one with the Wings earlier in the season). In 13 AHL games, he has 10 points and a +5 rating.

He had originally started the season in Detroit, where he recorded three points in six games with the big club (along with a +2 rating), before being assigned to Grand Rapids.

With a 10-7-0-2 record on the season, Grand Rapids currently checks in at the No. 5 spot in the AHL’s Central Division.
