The hockey community lost a loved one today.

Joey Gangola passed away today after long battle with Leukemia.

Last night was a pasta dinner fundraiser held in the 16-year-old’s honor at Petruzzello’s Banquet and Conference Center in Troy.

Visitation will be on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons in Shelby Township.

The funeral will be at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be passed along to charities Joey supported.

Gangola, a member of the 16U Rochester Rattlers team and a Warren De La Salle student, was a beloved member of the hockey community around Metro Detroit.

Last winter, his hockey family organized the ‘Joey Strong Puck Leukemia Game at his home rink of the Onyx Ice Arena in Rochester, raising more than $18,000 for the Gangola family.
