EA Sports revealed its first batch of features and highlights for the upcoming NHL 17 video game. Here’s a round-up of all the new info released for the iconic video game franchise’s latest edition.

  • New “Reactionary Save Intelligence” aims to improve goaltender realism; goalies will “process their position, angle and the scoring situation before committing to an athletic or technical save.” EA says they have used new motion capture for the technical aspect of goaltending, which will make more realistic stances and saves.
  • “Net Battle” physics will allow users to compete for space in front of the goal crease, either on the offensive or defensive side of play. Players will be able to battle, tie up the opposition, or engage in some stick work for positioning.
  • Dozens of new cellies so you can properly rub that goal in your friend’s face.
  • “Own Every Zone” improved gameplay features better tape-to-tape passes, puck pick-ups and pivots; more responsive skating and stopping and new hit mechanics that allow for big hits or a simple ‘angling him off into the boards.’

New gameplay modes

  • World Cup of Hockey – Pretty self-explanatory there.
  • Draft Champions – Hold a fantasy draft and then take your star-studded new roster to the ice.
  • Franchise mode – Be A GM mode has been expanded to offer complete control of the franchise – make decisions on player personnel, ticket prices, marketing, arena upgrades, franchise relocation. But you will have the team owner watching your every move…

Other highlights

  • Arena creator – Customize the ice surface, the goal light, the scoreboard, the goal songs, the lighting – you name it, you’ve got it.
  • Team editor – Change up your team’s entire uniform – patterns, colors, patches and logos.
  • ECHL addition – The ECHL makes its debut in NHL 17 – all 27 teams, jerseys and rosters.
