ECHL-K-WINGSBy @MichaelCaples –

The ECHL announced their first set of monthly awards today, and it didn’t take long for one of the Kalamazoo Wings to snag some league recognition.

Curtis Valk was named the league’s CCM ECHL Player of the Month for October, after the K-Wings’ forward racked up 10 points in six games.

The K-Wings rode Valk’s six-game point streak to a 4-1-1-0 record in the first full month of the season.

Valk, who is under contract to the Utica Comets of the AHL, had four goals and six assists in those six games, along with a +6 rating. The rookie forward leads all freshmen skaters in scoring, and he’s second overall in the entire ECHL with 11 points on the year.
