Former U of D Jesuit stars land spots on college rosters

Former University of Detroit Jesuit hockey standouts and brothers Evan and Matthew Moore, along with Mac Olson, will all be taking their game to the collegiate level.
After successful high school and juniors’ careers, the former Cubs are ready for the collegiate game.
Evan Moore, a native of Grosse Pointe Park, graduated from University of Detroit in 2010. He officially signed his National letter of intent to play hockey at Robert Morris University, a member of Atlantic Hockey.
“Robert Morris University presents a very exciting opportunity for me,” Evan Moore said. “I visited the campus, met the coaches and felt at home immediately. The coaches indicated that I would have an opportunity to play right away and made me feel like I was a part of the program right from the visit.”
During the last two seasons, Evan played for Green Mountain Glades of the EJHL and the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL. In his most recent season with the Stampede, he played in 55 games and scored one goal and six assists.
“We are very excited about Evan Moore coming to Robert Morris,” said Robert Morris University head coach Derrick Schooley. “We feel he will make a seamless transition to the Division I level. He has played at a high level throughout his career and we feel he will be ready to play and contribute at Robert Morris.”
Evan’s brother, Matthew Moore, signed his National Letter of Intent to play at Lawrence University, located in Appleton, Wis.
“Lawrence University is an excellent academic institution that will give me the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love while furthering my education,” Matthew Moore said. “The campus and surrounding area is a very good fit for me and the support afforded to the students gives me a comfortable feeling about transitioning into college life.”
Following his high school career Matthew Moore played one season for the Green Mountain Glades of the EJHL. During the 2011-2012 season, Moore played for Jamestown of the NAHL for a total of 60 games, scoring six goals and contributing six assists.
Lawrence University Athletic Director and Head Hockey Coach Mike Szkodzinski said bringing Matthew on board is a great fit for the team and their goals.
“He is a great kid and will enhance our speed and grit,” said Szkodzinski. “We lost our best two-way players to graduation and I think he fits that mold at our level very well.”
Olson, a 2009 graduate of University of Detroit, was an impressive player during high school. Olson finished his career as part of the Dream Team and a finalist for Mr. Hockey his senior year.
After spending the past three seasons playing for various juniors organizations – Chicago, Wichita Falls, Des Moines and Carlton Place- Olson is getting his chance to play collegiate hockey.
Olson recently committed to Hobart College (located in Geneva, NY), a member of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
“Hobart College is an excellent academic institution and has a top caliber hockey program as well. This past season they finished the season ranked 13th in the country,” said Olson. “The coaching staff and current players were very welcoming and indicated that there is support available for all students who are making the transition to college life, all things that are important to me as I make this move.”
Hobart finished last season 16-10-1 which was good enough for a national rank of 13th. Hobart College Head Coach Mark Taylor is looking forward to bringing Olson on board next season.
“We’re looking forward to having an impact player of Mac’s caliber and experience join us. He is a complete player, very well rounded, smart and skilled,” said Taylor.
All three players were captains of their senior seasons at University of Detroit and all three were received all-league and all-state honors.
