Shortly after USA Hockey announced the cancellation of all National Championships, the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association followed suit.

The MAHA Executive Board took emergency action Wednesday night to cancel the remainder of the 2020 state tournament.

In addition, youth Player Development tryouts have been postponed for the time being. The girls’ tryouts will continue as scheduled for the time being, but the situation will continued to be monitored closely.

“Safety of our participants has always been our top priority and with the current coronavirus situation, our executive committee unanimously decided to cancel our remaining events,” said George Atkinson, president of MAHA, in a release. “We’re sure there will be many questions and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we together work through this unprecedented situation.

“While we’re disappointed that we had to make this decision, we want to congratulate the teams that qualified for these events for making it this far in their season. I really hoped we would make it through the next few weeks and complete our championships, but given today’s developments that is now not possible. We also want to thanks the many people that invested time and effort into the planning and organization of these championship events. “
