Ferris State’s Jake Willets named WCHA rookie of the month

Ferris State freshman defenseman Jake Willets shined in the month of November, and the WCHA took notice.

The college hockey conference has named the Erie native its rookie of the month, after he led all WCHA freshmen in scoring with 10 points.

Willets, a St. Mary Catholic Central and Belle Tire 18U product, posted one goal and nine assists during the second month of the NCAA hockey season. Those nine assists tied for the WCHA lead during the timeframe.

He scored his first NCAA goal on Nov. 16 against Bemidji State, and he also recorded eight blocked shots during November.

On the season, Willets has 14 points in 15 games.
