Stoever, Gushchin named USHL players of the week

One Michigan native and one Michigan resident take up two of the three spots on Tuesday’s USHL players of the week list.

Northville native Christian Stoever has been named the league’s  goaltender of the week, while Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Danil Gushchin earned forward of the week recognition.

Stoever only appeared in one game this weekend, but he made it count. The Merrimack commit made 50 saves in a 3-2 win for his Des Moines Buccaneers against the Madison Capitols. Des Moines was out-shot every period (14-11, 28-9, 10-9), but Stoever set personal bests in saves and shots faced to get the job done for his team – it’s just the ninth time in franchise history (dating back to 2002) that a goalie has seen that many shots.

Gushchin, meanwhile, turned in one of the most impressive USHL performances you will ever see on Friday, as he scored all four of his team’s goals in an epic 4-3 comeback and overtime win for the Lumberjacks. More on that here.
