Five Michigan girls named to U.S. roster for IIHF Under-18 Worlds

USA Hockey has announced its roster for the upcoming IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship, and it’s filled with Michigan natives.

Congrats to the five players selected to the 2020 U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team, who will compete for Team USA at the prestigious tournament in Bratislava, Slovakia from Dec. 26 through Jan. 2.

Michigan names:

  • Emma Gentry – Forward – Alpena – HoneyBaked
  • Callie Shanahan – Goaltender – Commerce – HoneyBaked
  • Kirsten Simms – Forward – Plymouth – Selects Academy
  • Amanda Thiele – Goaltender – Milford – Belle Tire
  • Clara Van Wieren – Forward – Okemos – Shattuck St. Mary’s

“We are looking forward to this year’s World Championships in Slovakia,” said Maura Crowell (Mansfield, Mass.), head coach of the 2019-20 U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team as well as the head women’s ice hockey coach at the University of Minnesota Duluth. “After a thorough evaluation process over the last several months, we have assembled a deep and experienced group of players from across the country. We feel confident in this group as we strive to bring gold back to the United States.”
