Brenden Datema named NAHL defenseman of the year

By @MichaelCaples –

The Huskies have a commitment from the best defenseman in the NAHL.

Michigan Tech commit and Sterling Heights native Brenden Datema has been named the 2018-19 defenseman of the year by the junior league after an exceptional season in Texas.

The 20-year-old blueliner led the league in scoring from the blue line in 2018-19, as he racked up 60 points in 58 games.

A NAHL Top Prospects Tournament invitee, Datema registered the most points by any NAHL defenseman since the 1988-89 season and second-most in NAHL single-season history.

He joins teammate and fellow Michigan native Logan Jenuwine on the major awards list, as Jenuwine was named MVP and forward of the year – more here.
