Murph is back.

Fox Sports Detroit announced today that former Red Wings defenseman Larry Murphy is returning to the broadcast team for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.

He fills the void left by Darren Eliot, who has accepted a job with the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

“I’m extremely happy to be back with FOX Sports Detroit,” Murphy said in a press release from FSD. “The fans in Detroit have been incredible. Detroit is home, and I’m excited to get started.”

A member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, Murphy won four Stanley Cup championships during his 21 seasons. He won two with Pittsburgh (1991, 1992) and two with Detroit (1997-98).

Murphy is the fifth highest-scoring defenseman in NHL history.

He began working part-time as a color analyst alongside Ken Daniels in 2002-03; in 2006, he became a studio analyst for pregames, postgames and intermissions on FSD.

Murphy and FSD had parted ways in March of 2013.
