The WCHA announced its monthly award winners for December this week, and three Michigan names received recognition.

Great Lakes State residents Collin Saccoman and Cooper Zech were honored, as was Michigan native Ryan Bednard.

Saccoman, a junior defenseman for the Lake Superior State Lakers, was named the WCHA’s defenseman of the month for the second straight time. A native of Stillwater, Minn., Saccoman tied for third among blueliners with 1.00 points per game, racking up one goal and one assist in five contests. He recorded 17 blocked shots, and he registered a +5 rating while helping LSSU to a 4-1-0 record on the month.

Zech, a freshman blueliner for the Ferris State Bulldogs, was named the conference’s rookie of the month. A South Lyon native, Zech recorded an NCAA rookie-best six assists and eight points.

Bednard, a junior netminder for Bowling Green, was named the WCHA’s goaltender of the month. The Macomb native recorded a 3-0-1 record on the month, registering a 1.72 goals-against average and .931 save percentage in the process.
