Michigan Tech goaltender Matt Jurusik named NCAA first star of the week

By @StefanKubus –

It was a career weekend for Michigan Tech’s Matt Jurusik.

The junior netminder from LaGrange, Ill. recorded the first two shutouts of his season to keep Alaska Anchorage at bay this past weekend.

Friday’s game saw Jurusik stop all 18 shots he faces in a 3-0 win before turning away all 21 the next night in a scoreless tie. Those efforts helped drop his goals-against average to 2.40 and boost his save percentage to .908.

The Huskies next host Minnesota State as part of this year’s Winter Carnival in Houghton.
