PHOTOS: Spartans grab early lead, outlast Bulldogs at Munn

 

In the first of a home-and-home series between Michigan State and Ferris State, the Spartans prevailed at home. Michigan State held a 4-0 lead going into the third period, and while Ferris State clawed back, MSU ended up prevailing 5-3. Patrick Khodorenko recorded a hat trick for the Spartans, logging MSU’s final three goals. Zach Osburn and Mitch Lewandowski also scored in the win for the Spartans, while John Lethemon made 25 saves. Hunter Wendt scored twice for Ferris State, with Jason Tackett adding the final goal of the contest. Justin Kapelmaster made the start in goal for the Bulldogs; he was replaced by Roni Salmenkangas after he suffered a non-contact injury late in the first period. (Photos by Michael Caples/MiHockey)
