They weren’t born here, but all three of this week’s USHL players of the week selections are Michigan residents.

The two Michigan-based USHL franchises filled up this week’s weekly stars list for the top junior league in the country, as Muskegon’s Alex Yakovenko and Brandon Bussi were selected, as was Team USA’s Trevor Zegras.

Yakovenko, a native of Karaganda, Kazakhstan, recorded two goals and one assist in Muskegon’s 4-0 victory over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Saturday, which led to him being named the league’s defenseman of the week.

Bussi, meanwhile, was between the pipes for that contest – his 23-save shutout earned him goaltender of the week honors. The Sound Beach, N.Y., native is now 13-1-0-0 with a 2.14 goals-against and .923 save percentage on the season.

Zegras, meanwhile, racked up two goals and two assists (along with a +3 rating) in the USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program Under-18 Team’s pair of wins this weekend. He helped the Team USA U18s to a 7-1 win in Omaha on Friday and a 7-4 win in Dubuque on Saturday.
