Recruiting: Trevor Mitchell commits to Western Michigan

One of the top Michigan names in the 2003 birth class is off the board.

Trevor Mitchell has made his commitment to Western Michigan.

The South Lyon native and Honeybaked 16U defenseman said he has been drawn to Kalamazoo for a long time.

“I knew right away Western Michigan was the place for me when I walked around campus,” Mitchell told MiHockey. “I felt a connection right away to the university – not only as an athlete, but as a student, as well. Growing up in Michigan, I have attended many college hockey games and the energy level inside of Lawson Arena over the years is crazy – especially the student section.”

Mitchell, a USA Hockey Select 15 Camp invite last summer, is the younger brother of Omaha Lancers defenseman and Cornell commit Travis Mitchell. His father, Jeff Mitchell, played four seasons with the Michigan K-Wings of the IHL from 1995-1999 as part of his nine-year professional career.

“Being able to play in my home state and in front of that many students someday will be be amazing,” Mitchell said. “I look forward to attending Western Michigan University and being a Bronco.”
